What is the hometime policy?
We have a "hometime on your time" policy. Drivers who are on the road 10 to 14 days are home every other weekend, while regional drivers on the road 5 days are home every weekend. However, our "hometime on your time" policy allows drivers to schedule additional hometime when needed.
What fuel card is used?
EFS cards are used for fuel, cash advances and road expenses.
What is the driver advance policy?
You may draw $25 per day from your EFS card. All advances will be deducted from the next regular paycheck.
What kind of driver paperwork is required?
There are no trip sheets or envelopes to complete! Drivers use the Transflo scanning to submit trip documents. Transflo offers kiosks in many truck stops and also offers a smartphone app. You can also use any of the options available at Pilot Travel Centers or Love’s Travel Stops to scan and submit your trip documents.
Do you provide payroll direct deposit?
Yes! Your paycheck is automatically deposited into your bank account. You can even direct your check to be deposited into multiple accounts.
Can I take my tractor home?
Do you have a rider policy?
Yes, we offer a restricted rider policy.
Are tractors assigned?
Yes, you will be provided with your own tractor.
What kind of electronic logging system do you use?
Omnitracs (Qualcomm) is used for logging and dispatch information.
What is your pet policy?
At this time, we do not allow pets to ride along.
What are your benefits?
We offer group medical and dental coverage, group term life insurance, short term disability, and a 401(K) plan with company match. You become eligible for benefits at the beginning of the month after 60 days of employment. In addition to these great benefit plans, we also offer elective critical illness and accident insurances.
Do you hire teams?
Yes. While we do not pair drivers to create teams, we do hire qualified teams. We also offer diverse training opportunities to experienced drivers who have interest in training a team driver. Team drivers can expect to run 5,000 - 6,000 miles each week.
Will I have an assigned driver manager?
Yes, driver managers are assigned to each driver. The driver managers learn your preferences, running style and when you want to be home. Driver managers have dedicated phone numbers so you can reach them when you call. Driver managers and all staff are physically located in our Oxford, IA corporate office.
What are the operations office hours?
Our office hours are 8 AM – 5 PM Central time, Monday through Friday.
What do I do when I have after-hours questions or issues?
An operations staff member is available 24/7 by calling our toll free number.
How will I receive my dispatch info?
Your driver manager sends a message directly to your tractor with your next load information.
What if I have an issue with my driver manager?
The Operation's Manager or Human Resources Manager will gladly work with you to address your concerns. Chris Hummer (President) and Don Hummer (Chairman) both have open door policies and are always happy to talk with you to resolve any issues.
Where is your driver lounge located?
The driver lounge is conveniently located next to our maintenance facility in Oxford, IA, just a few miles west of the main office.
What do you have in your driver lounge?
Our recently remodeled lounge has free showers, laundry facilities and a TV room where you can watch cable TV or play video games to pass the time. We also have free coffee made fresh throughout the day and assortment of vending machines. We also offer free wi-fi access to keep you connected, as well as a fitness room and on-site health coach. Who repairs the tractors and trailers?
We have our own maintenance facility in Oxford, IA which is conveniently located next to our driver lounge. A company car is available to you while your tractor is in the shop.
How much do you pay?
You earn up to .525 cents per mile for all dispatched delivered miles for national drivers; .505 cents per mile for regional; .445 per mile maximum for intermodal; and .605 per mile maximum for team. This includes an additional differential for miles run in the 11 northeast states, otherwise known as our DIME program.
What do I have to do to earn the maximum pay per mile?
We take safety and customer service very seriously at Don Hummer Trucking. A safety and performance related bonus make up a portion of the compensation and there is a potential for bonus loss due to accidents and/or non-compliance. However, 98% of our drivers earn the maximum every payroll.
What about vacation pay?
On the next paycheck after your anniversary date, you are paid .01 cent for all dispatched delivered miles during the previous twelve months. As your years-of-service with our company grows, so does your longevity pay! As long as you are under active dispatch, you will be paid vacation.
How often do you pay?
Every Friday your paycheck will be directly deposited into your bank account.
Do I get paid for orientation?
Yes. We cover your lodging and meal expenses during our two day orientation. You will receive between $250 to $500 (based on experience) upon successful completion of orientation. The second part of the orientation bonus will be paid when you deliver your first load and the final portion of the bonus is paid after you successfully complete your second week.
How much can I earn?
Many of our drivers make over $50,000 per year. In 2014, our highest earning solo driver grossed $73,400 and our top team grossed $122,000.
