About Us
The Hummer family knows trucking.
For more than 60 years the Hummer name has been a trusted partner in transportation. Buck Hummer first hauled livestock for family farms, auctions and packing plants throughout the Midwest. He was followed by his son, Don Hummer, who learned the business from his father before establishing his own business in 1975. Don Hummer Trucking Corporation was incorporated in 1982 and now both of Don’s sons are actively involved in business operations and continuing to build upon the Hummer name.
Don moved away from hauling livestock by leasing his trucks to larger carriers before obtaining his own operating authority in 1987. He continued to build his fleet through a series of acquisitions of smaller trucking operations and developed a reputation for providing quality service, and perhaps more importantly, a company culture where professional truck drivers could call home.
The legacy continues with Don’s sons Andrew and Chris. Andrew joined the company in 2013 after seven years in various roles in logistics and account management with one of the industry’s largest carriers. Today he is Hummer’s Vice President of Operations.
Chris, Don’s oldest son, worked in many positions throughout the company, including driver and mechanic, prior to leaving to attend the University of Cincinnati. After graduating in 2005, Chris returned to lead the Operations Department and was named Vice President in 2009, President in 2015 and President & CEO in 2024. Chris and Don are current CDL holders, with Don continuing to run loads on a regular basis.
Today the company is based in Cedar Rapids, IA with terminal operations in Homestead, IA, Gretna, NE and Shawnee, KS.
