Truck Drivers Make the Holidays Happen
Forget the white beard and red cap. At Hummer, we know who’s really delivering all those Christmas gifts.
This is expected to be a record-breaking holiday season for retailers as families and friends begin to gather again, according to Mathew Shay, President and CEO of the National Retail Federation (NRF). Some retailers have asked that people start holiday shopping as early as possible, to offset the regular November/December surge. Nevertheless, Deloitte estimates a 7 to 9 percent jump in holiday sales.
And when retailers kick it into high gear, so does the trucking industry. November and December are often the busiest months for truck drivers. This holiday, industry leaders have warned of empty shelves, longer shipping times and labor shortages due to global supply chain issues that have plagued the industry since the beginning of the pandemic – making the work of CDL-A truck drivers even more crucial.
Last year, over 72 percent of the nation’s goods were hauled by Truck, according to the American Trucking Associations. Truckers often tackle increased freight volumes, more traffic, bad weather conditions and long hours during the holiday season. But without them, Americans wouldn’t receive their packages to be wrapped and placed under a tree; they wouldn’t be able to find the perfect turkey at the grocery store or send their long-distance relatives their glittering Christmas cards.
Hummer knows a lot of drivers spend their holidays on the road. Some sacrifice their own family time, so that other families can enjoy theirs. We want to give a hearty THANK YOU to those who make our holiday meals, gift exchanges and family traditions possible.
If you’re not a driver, make sure to tell them thank you this year. If you are a CDL-A driver looking to make a difference in your community and have a happier New Year, Don Hummer Trucking has a variety of OTR, scheduled and dedicated jobs available.
